New Apple AirPods Pro 2 release date
Beginning on Friday, September 9, customers may buy the new AirPods Pro (2nd generation), which will go on sale globally on Friday, September 23.
The new upgraded variant of the Apple AirPods Pro is arriving at a respectable time given that the previous model has been available for over three years.
New Apple AirPods Pro 2 price
Fortunately, Apple won't raise the price for the AirPods Pro (2nd generation). The same $249 (AU$399) list price that the original AirPods Pro debuted at three years ago will still be available for purchase.
Better listening with Apple’s H2 chip
Apple's H2 processor, a next-generation advancement over the H1 model, is maybe the largest enhancement we're receiving with the second-generation AirPods Pro.
Apple claims that the H2, the earbuds' processing unit, is quicker and more potent, resulting in greater audio performance, including sharper, richer-sounding music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and anything else that can be blasted via the buds.
Additionally, the H2 chip collaborates with the completely redesigned driver and amplifier of the earbuds to produce better sound staging and a broader frequency response range, or, to put it simply: better highs, better mids, and greater bass. The revised drivers are also reported to have less distortion, although we won't be able to comment on this until we test them out.
Double the noise cancellation, better transparency
Advanced computational techniques, which Apple claims operate in concert with the Pro's inbuilt microphones and back vents to produce almost double the amount of Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) found on the original AirPods Pro, are another one of the H2's strengths.
Ambient noise reduction on the Pro is now able to focus on and reduce loud environmental sounds like city construction, sirens, and other auditory annoyances, giving Transparency Mode another efficiency boost.
We've been really happy with the original AirPods Pro ear tips in terms of form-fitting, so we're thrilled to see that they'll be available for the second-generation Pro, along with a new "extra-small" tip size for the smallest ear canals.
Spatial Audio for you, yours, and everyone else
When it first debuted in June 2021, Apple's Spatial Audio was a three-dimensional game changer for the Apple Music platform. The feature, which is compatible with a number of Apple products including the original AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, and AirPods (3rd generation), uses cutting-edge head-tracking technology to produce an immersive listening experience that simulates surround sound.
Spatial Audio will, of course, be supported by the AirPods Pro 2, but with a welcome twist: a happy handshake between your iPhone's TrueDepth camera and your AirPods Pro, for what Apple is calling "Personalized Spatial Audio," which essentially lets you create personalized Spatial Audio listening profiles based on your particular ear shape and head geometry. The sound of the music will be changed in real time using a feature called Adaptive EQ in accordance with how well the earphones suit you and your melon.
The greatest part: You can experience this customized audio technology on your iPhone, iPad, and MacBook with smooth switching throughout your ecosystem of goods since your listener profile will be synced across all of your compatible Apple devices.
The volume controls we’ve been waiting for
One of the main shortcomings of AirPods has always been the absence of bud-based volume controls, which required users to regulate the output via the host device that was attached. However, this is no longer the case.
The AirPod Pro 2 are providing a ground-breaking new haptic command for the force sensors as they ride in on the touch controls chariot: a swipe up/down command that, you guessed it, increases and decreases the volume of your AirPods Pros. I'm grateful. Apple.
All of the short- and long-press features of the first-generation AirPods Pro will triumphantly return for the second-generation, along with the option to tailor commands for each individual bud, in addition to the additional volume adjustment functionality.
Better battery, charging, and Find My capabilities
The AirPods Pro (2022) will have a slightly longer battery life in the buds and a significantly longer battery life in the charging case when compared to the original AirPod Pro's estimated four and a half hours of listening time (with ANC turned on) and 24 hours of additional listening with the charging case.
With ANC turned on, listeners may now anticipate up to six hours of listening time and up to 30 hours of listening time when using the charging case. But there's more charge-case news than that.
With the second-generation MagSafe Charging Case, you'll have additional options for quickly recharging your case because it works with Apple Watch and MagSafe chargers in addition to conventional Lightning connector and Qi-certified chargers.
In addition, a built-in U1 chip in the charging case will now enable users to locate a lost case using Apple's Find My feature, even if the AirPods themselves are not inside the case at the time of loss. This is because nothing is more upsetting than losing a priceless AirPod and having to buy a replacement. Along with the U1, Apple also included a speaker on the bottom of the case so you can hear a beep when the Find My function is activated. Additionally, the case has a side-facing lanyard loop for easy attachment to a bag or backpack.
Water resistance for the case, too
The original AirPods Pros are IPX4-rated, but alas, the charging case has absolutely no water protection, leaving it to experience the wrath of Mother Nature. However, not for the second-generation AirPods Pros, and ideally never again.
Yes, both the earphones and the charging case for the AirPods Pro 2 have received the official IPX4 certification.
